Google’s 2009 April Fools Joke – Gmail Autopilot

Almost every year Google plays an April Fools jokes on the world. One of this years jokes is the Gmail Autopilot. What Gmail Autopilot is supposed to do is respond to your emails for you, because you don’t have the time to do it yourself. It will read your emails and sample your writing style and respond to every email you receive.  Here are some sample Autopilot responses:

Respond to business proposals

Manage relationships

Match your personal style

Google also claims that Gmail Autopilot will work for Gmail Chat as well, which I would personally love for many different reasons.

And the concern that we all have is, what if a sender and recipient both have Autopilot on? Google says:

Two Gmail accounts can happily converse with each other for up to three messages each. Beyond that, our experiments have shown a significant decline in the quality ranking of Autopilot’s responses and further messages may commit you to dinner parties or baby namings in which you have no interest.

I love April Fools day, and I cant wait until next year to see what Google does next!

Oh, and don’t forget to read the Gmail Autopilot Terms!
