Every year on September 19th, the world celebrates the parodic holiday Talk Like A Pirate Day.  I’m sure it’s hard to guess what this holiday is all about, but if for some reason you don’t get it, every year on September 19th the world is asked to Talk Like A Pirate.  A good example of this would be, instead of answering the phone with “Hello”, you would answer with “Ahoy” or “Aaarrr!”.

Talk Like A Pirate Day was invented by in 1995 by John Baur (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap’n Slappy) when a racquetball injury made one of them yell out “Aaarrr!”  That small outburst started an inside joke that eventually grew into an unofficial national holiday.  They chose September 19th as the date because it is Summers’ ex-wife’s birthday, and it would be easier to remember.

Do you celebrate Talk Like A Pirate Day? And if so, how? Would you actually answer the phone with “Ahoy Matey”? Would you talk like a pirate at your work place? Let me know, I’m interested in finding out how many other people there are like me.
