What Does Prouded Mean?

It was a dinner like any other dinner, me stuffing my face like a starving wild dog, Wife telling me to slow down and both of us telling the kid to eat his veggies. But what made this night different from the rest is not that he did or did not eat the broccoli, but his excuse of why he would not eat the broccoli.

Me: Kid, eat your broccoli so you can grow big and strong like superman.

Kid: I don’t want to, it’s too prouded.

Yes folks, my word processor is going crazy as I write this. ”Prouded is not a word, you must have spelt it wrong. Did you mean Prouder, Prodded, or even Produced?” No word processor, I truly meant ‘Prouded’.

We didn’t stress the word, or even question it. I actually assumed that it would be the last time I ever heard the word, but it stuck. He used it everywhere and after weeks I still didn’t truly know what it meant. But now with the word firmly fixed into his vocabulary, I had to be able to communicate with my son, I had to know what it meant.

Every time we asked we got a different answer, the best one being, ‘it means prouded Dad’. Well duh, thanks for all your help son.

So after weeks I think I’ve finally figured out what exactly ‘Prouded’ means. And I like it! I think I’m going to start using it in my own vocabulary. It’s a really good/versatile word, that puts the blame on something else.

Prouded is when you normally like something, but are not really in the mood for it at the moment. But also, it’s not your fault that your not in the mood for it, but the items fault. So, for instance, I normally like Pizza Rolls but the Pizza Rolls are making me not in the mood for them at the moment. It’s not my fault, I’m perfectly capable of eating a Pizza Roll or two, and would like to be in the mood for them, but, alas, the Pizza Roll wont let me be in the mood for it. So, I can’t eat the Pizza Roll because it’s too Prouded.

I love the logic and intelligence of a 3 year old. It amazes me the things they come up with. If I could spend 10 minutes in the mind of my son with out going insane, I believe the mixture of innocence and intelligence would help me solve all of the world’s problems. I can only hope that he doesn’t loose this great trait anytime soon.

A food that is so full of itself (i.e. prouded) is definitely a turn off! Good for him for making the call! :)
