Getting Fit With The Wii Fit
After staring in the mirror the other day I realized that I’m getting really out of shape. The days of eating whatever I want and burning it off at band practice or at a show are over, I now have to watch what I eat and *cringe* exercise. And what better way to exercise than to plug myself into the Nintendo Wii Fit.
Long story short, until my wife gives me my “surprise” Christmas gift of a Nintendo Wii, I’m borrowing my nephew’s Wii and his mother’s Wii Fit. With the Wii in my possession I was able to create my Mii, an avatar you personalize with a nickname, facial features, and body type to match your own, which I think looks just like me. I’ve registered myself at the Wii Fit gym and I’m ready to go.
I’ve started my daily workout routine by waking up at 5:00 am every morning before work to get into shape. The first thing I do is get weighed, find my BMI, and find out my Wii Fit Age. I have no problem believing the weight, it looks about right, but the Wii Fit Age I really don’t understand. It makes me do some simple balancing tricks and factors in my weight, height, BMI and real age, and told me I’m 31. Then I do it again and I’m 34. The BMI is a joke, it just factors my wieght and height and tells me I’m overweight, what it doesn’t realize is I’m jam packed full of muscles.
According to the Wii my weight of 179 at 5’11″ is overweight and to lower my BMI to 22% I need to lose about 10 pounds. I’ve given myself a goal, on the Wii of course, of 3 months to become a twig. I realize that the Wii wont do it alone, so I’ve also given up soda and most snacks.
Since I’ve only just begun, I really don’t have a workout plan as of yet, but I have fallen into the habit of doing the Yoga things first (I try to do them all). Yoga is first for a few different reasons. First, I really don’t want anyone seeing me stretching like a dork in my front room, if my wife caught me I’d never live it down. And second, I almost think of it as a stretch before the real workout begins (not that the Wii has been very hard yet).
Not that anyone other than myself actually cares about my progress, I’ve decided to post daily results on twitter. I promise I wont bombard you with my eating habits or ever time I stretch, I’m only posting a few times in the morning somewhere around 5 – 6 am.
