Baconnaise Review
A reader of JohnNemec.com gave me a jar of Baconnaise Lite, apparently she has heard of my bacon obsession. So I thought that I should try my first food review. Knowing nothing about reviewing food, I looked to ScottRobertsWeb.com for inspiration. You may notice I’ve ripped him off completely in the formatting of the post, with his blessing of course. So, if your interested in food reviews, or spicy food to be specific, please visit ScottRobertsWeb.com.
Baconnaise, The Ultimate Bacon Flavored Spread, is a bacon-flavored mayonnaise that is used on sandwiches, salads, dips, sauces, chicken, fish and fries. From the makers of Bacon Salt (which I’ve never tried), Baconnaise is another product that follows the dream of creators Justin and Dave to make all food taste like bacon.
Appearance and Texture:
Baconnaise looks exactly like what you would think, creamy, orange-tinted and mayonnaise like. At a closer look there are speckles of what looks like bacon, what else would it be? The packaging looks great, and made the geek in me even more excited to be eating bacon flavored mayonnaise.
The first thing I did after breaking the seal of the container was try the Baconnaise straight up on a spoon. And too my surprise, or not, it tasted like bacon flavored mayonnaise. Actually, it was VERY good. But knowing that this is not how it was intended to be eaten I decided to put it to the real test, actual food.
Taste on Food:
That evening I cooked up some bacon and decided it would be a perfect night for good old-fashioned BLTs. Maybe a bit unfair to the Baconnaise people, not only comparing it to actual bacon but spreading it on a bacon sandwich. Maybe the taste of real bacon overwhelmed the Baconnaise, but I could hardly tell it was on the sandwich. So I decided to make a Baconnaise and lettuce sandwich. WOW! It was great! It reminded me of my college days when I was too poor to buy actual bacon so I would make bacon bits and mayonnaise sandwiches.
Overall:
There is some great taste to Baconnaise, and I plan on trying it out on other food items, such as burgers and fries. Being an item that my wife refuses to eat, or even look at, I should have it for a reasonable amount of time, which should allow me to try it on many different things.
For people that think Baconnaise cannot be good in any way, but have never tried it, remember the old Dr. Seuss story Green Eggs and Ham. In Green Eggs and Ham, Sam tries to get the unnamed character to eat it without success, until then end when he tries it and actually thanks Sam for giving it to him. Just try Baconnaise once, if you don’t like it people will leave you alone, but most likely you find that it is a wonderful spread and you truly do enjoy it.
Try some Baconnaise with your next meal, and let me know what you think!

Let me first state that I do not like Bacon nor Mayonnaise… that being said.
There are lots of people that do like Bacon and Mayonnaise.
The biggest fact is that both Bacon and Mayonnaise are both very bad for you. Both are loaded with cholesterol and fat.
The final straw is putting even a little bit of Baconnaise on a BLT is ridiculous overkill…
I vote for a rematch… Let’s try it on a non-Bacon based sandwich. Try a Turkey or Pastrami sandwich… I want to know if this “topping” is good on anything else…
The goal, this evening in-fact, is to have it on a burger… I promise I’ll post my burger review on monday (here in the comments) for all to see. But I suggest anyone who likes bacon and mayo to at least try Baconnaise!
OH, and there are only 3g of fat/serving in Baconnaise Lite, as well as only 5mg of Cholesterol… not that I really watch that stuff, but I’m sure it means something to someone.
Due to illness in my family, non-Baconnaise related, we missed out on burger night. But rest assured, burger night is coming, and I will expand on the review then. Stay Tuned!
I made my burgers – they were great! check out my recipe here http://ow.ly/14dw8
