Baconnaise Review
Posted by John Nemec in My Boring Life on January 29th, 2010
A reader of JohnNemec.com gave me a jar of Baconnaise Lite, apparently she has heard of my bacon obsession. So I thought that I should try my first food review. Knowing nothing about reviewing food, I looked to ScottRobertsWeb.com for inspiration. You may notice I’ve ripped him off completely in the formatting of the post, with his blessing of course. So, if your interested in food reviews, or spicy food to be specific, please visit ScottRobertsWeb.com.
Baconnaise, The Ultimate Bacon Flavored Spread, is a bacon-flavored mayonnaise that is used on sandwiches, salads, dips, sauces, chicken, fish and fries. From the makers of Bacon Salt (which I’ve never tried), Baconnaise is another product that follows the dream of creators Justin and Dave to make all food taste like bacon.
Appearance and Texture:
Baconnaise looks exactly like what you would think, creamy, orange-tinted and mayonnaise like. At a closer look there are speckles of what looks like bacon, what else would it be? The packaging looks great, and made the geek in me even more excited to be eating bacon flavored mayonnaise.
The first thing I did after breaking the seal of the container was try the Baconnaise straight up on a spoon. And too my surprise, or not, it tasted like bacon flavored mayonnaise. Actually, it was VERY good. But knowing that this is not how it was intended to be eaten I decided to put it to the real test, actual food.
Taste on Food:
That evening I cooked up some bacon and decided it would be a perfect night for good old-fashioned BLTs. Maybe a bit unfair to the Baconnaise people, not only comparing it to actual bacon but spreading it on a bacon sandwich. Maybe the taste of real bacon overwhelmed the Baconnaise, but I could hardly tell it was on the sandwich. So I decided to make a Baconnaise and lettuce sandwich. WOW! It was great! It reminded me of my college days when I was too poor to buy actual bacon so I would make bacon bits and mayonnaise sandwiches.
Overall:
There is some great taste to Baconnaise, and I plan on trying it out on other food items, such as burgers and fries. Being an item that my wife refuses to eat, or even look at, I should have it for a reasonable amount of time, which should allow me to try it on many different things.
For people that think Baconnaise cannot be good in any way, but have never tried it, remember the old Dr. Seuss story Green Eggs and Ham. In Green Eggs and Ham, Sam tries to get the unnamed character to eat it without success, until then end when he tries it and actually thanks Sam for giving it to him. Just try Baconnaise once, if you don’t like it people will leave you alone, but most likely you find that it is a wonderful spread and you truly do enjoy it.
Try some Baconnaise with your next meal, and let me know what you think!

Night at the Chase
Posted by John Nemec in My Boring Life on January 28th, 2010
My wife received a free night at The Chase Park Plaza Hotel from her place of employment so we decided to use it and make a date out of it. As parents of a two year old, we don’t get the chance to go out much, in-fact, our last date alone was our First Date In Over Three Years.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect, or what we were going to do at The Chase. We just decided to play it by ear and try to enjoy our relaxing night out. The only request I received was, “I don’t want to sit around talking about what we should do.” Sounded reasonable enough to me. So going in I had a few things in mind, but nothing set in stone.
By the time we arrived we had already decided to go ice-skating in Forest Park. So we parked our car and checked into our room to set our bags down knowing that we were going to just turn around and leave again. I would like to note that the concierge was VERY helpful. She overhead my wife and I talking about my horrible smoking habit and asked us if we wanted a room with a balcony. I gladly accepted.
We went to our new room, with a balcony, and it was gorgeous. I almost felt bad that we were only staying one night and we wouldn’t truly get to experience it. It wasn’t your typical bed/desk/bathroom in a small box with vertical blinds and a chain lock. It was more like an apartment.
We entered into the front room with an office to our right. A very comfortable couch greeted us and it took much effort to not sit and watch the large flat screen TV and waist the night away. We dropped our bags off in the bedroom, which was decked out with a king bed and another large wide-screen TV. The over tired father in me wanted nothing more than to sleep until they kicked me out.
Connecting both the front room and the bedroom was the balcony. Out there was a beautiful view of Lindell Blvd. If you’ve never stood on the 6th floor balcony looking over Lindell, I highly advise it.
After drooling over the room for a while, we finally made it to Forest Park to go ice-skating. We stayed for a few hours, sliding in circles and talking uninterrupted by the “jabberings” of a toddler. Since neither of us are avid skaters, we quickly became the slow people the hugged the wall and caused others to fall.
Thoroughly cold, we eventually made it back to The Chase and quickly hit the bars. We passed on seeing a movie, we couldn’t agree on one we both wanted to see. There were three bars that we found for us to choose from, but the Marquee Café seemed the best fit for us at the time. We ordered some food and had a few drinks and off we went to find some other entertainment.
Wandering over to Chaser’s Lounge, we listened to some Jazz and drank a few other beers. Chaser’s Lounge is located right across from the movie theater, so some of the night’s entertainment was watching the people there.
At nearly midnight we decided to call it an evening, we didn’t want to miss out on the wonderful, uninterrupted sleep that we so very much needed.
The next morning, we decided to revisit the Marquee Café for a nice breakfast buffet before heading home. We chose it for multiple reasons, first because of the casual atmosphere and second because the food the night before was wonderful.
If for any reason I ever have to get a hotel in my home town again, or if I ever move away and need a hotel when I come back to visit, The Chase Park Plaza Hotel would be the hotel of choice for me. I advise anyone looking for a nice evening and a very comfortable place to sleep in the St. Louis area to visit it, or at least consider it. And if I were going to give it a star rating, it would receive a 5 out of 5 from me.
Thank your Chase Park Plaza Hotel for providing me with a wonderful evening.

JohnNemec.com Hits 100 Posts!
Posted by John Nemec in My Boring Life on January 25th, 2010
I can’t believe that it’s already my 100th post! It seems like such a short time ago that I started writing a blog because I had nothing better to do but try to become a better writer. Now here I am, I can’t say that I’m a better writer, but it truly does give me something to do.
Over the past 100 posts this blog has evolved from a SEO / Web Development site to a site about anything and everything about me. Which does include SEO and Web Development, but also includes short stories about My Boring Life, my interest in Strange Stuff and Technology, and of course the place where I spend over 50 hours a week, Graybar.
It’s been an exciting and wild ride (as exciting and wild as blogs can be) and I hope to write another hundred posts. I’ve learned way more than I ever expected about Wordpress, SEO and Web Development in general. But I also learned how to write a complete sentence and to finish a thought.
Some surprising things have happened in these past 100 posts. The most surprising was what I thought was going to be a throw away post, Sick Addiction To World War for the iPhone, quickly became the most popular post on JohnNemec.com. According to Google Analytics I’m averaging over 50 hits to the site a day on variations of the keywords ‘world war iphone’. I’m also ranking 7th in Google for the same keywords.
Other surprising things, the image in My First Tattoo is drawing a lot of traffic in Google Images and the Forum is exploding in popularity (at least page views). Even though no one comments on the Tattoo post or posts regularly on the Forum, I’m still getting a decent about of traffic. It makes me smile even though people are shy.
I received a lot of verbal feedback as well. Two posts come to mind that people have called me or personally told me that they really enjoyed the article, they were Hey I Think That Guy Needs A 7OE and The Boxing Gym. The Boxing Gym was my first post in My Boring Life and is what started it all off for me. I had a story that I HAD to tell the world, and because of that my blog changed forever. And the 7OE spawned the 7OE Shirts, which sales are going well, Thank You to everyone that bought one!
I do want to thank all of you for reading and sticking around these past 100 posts, and I promise I will do my best to make the next 100 as enjoyable, if not more.
Thanks!
