Graybar on Today Show

So this is a little old, but it doesn’t make it uninteresting. On the morning of Dec. 18, 2008, a Graybar truck drove by the Today Show studio, showcasing a big Graybar logo in the background. Apparently Meredith Vieira didn’t notice, because she didn’t say anything, but I’m sure if she did she would be just as excited as I am.

This just goes to show that it’s always important to not only watch the pretty face on the screen, but also to pay attention to the stuff happening behind the scenes.

Twittervision

I found the most addictive thing since Google Earth, Twittervision.  A real-time geographic visualization of posts to Twitter. I haven’t found much of a point to it yet, but I am strangely compelled to sit and watch the tweets from all around the world.

If you log in, there are other options you can set. But I almost see no need to do this, when you can just watch other people tweet.

By far my favorite feature is the 3D View, where you can do the same things, but view it with a 3D map of the world.

So enjoy yourself, but don’t forget to rotate – you could get bedsores (or chair-sores).

Microsoft set to unleash Internet Explorer 8

The day has come, IE8 is here!  What does that mean for web developers? Will we continue to work around IE, or can we coexist peacefully in a world of W3C standards. According to Beyond Binary by Ina Fried:

But perhaps the biggest change in the browser is one made behind the scenes–the decision to make the browser better adhere to Web standards. That should make life easier for Web designers and developers in the future, but also poses compatibility challenges for sites that are optimized specifically for older versions of IE. In part to address this, Microsoft has a “compatibility” mode that lets Web sites indicate if they would prefer to be run by an engine that is more like older versions of the browser.

Only time will tell. I for one would love to see the day where a web developer isn’t complaining about Internet Explorer. Or will we have to continue building separate Style Sheets and JavaScript hacks?  Is this finally the end of IE6, can we stop doing png adjustments and worrying about 3 pixel jogs?

Now that IE8 is here I am going to stop worrying about IE6.  IE6 has had its time, but that time is now over. Someone will have to build a “Not IE6 Supported” icon for everyone’s footer.
